8/20 This book seems to be good it came highly recommended from alternative printers.Book of Alternative Photographic Processes, 3rd ed. by Christopher James.

8/28 Researching LED UV lights. Found a good source for I think for understanding UV light but not LED info

UV Box

Ultraviolet A (320-400nm) range. Ultraviolet B (280-320nm). But need to be able to convert to LED Ultraviolet.

Melody Bostick gave me incredible information on helping me with getting set up with chemicals for printing.

She also recommended to keep light source in printer more than 6inches from negative but not further than 9inches.

9/8 Make sure that class is set up with Dr Manzano

9/10 After researching the web I found LED UV lights. The company is Barrina and the wavelength is 395-400nm. Order 2 packs of 4 lights.

9/13 Place order with B&H for processing trays for processing film and for processing exposed paper. I already had metal toys but through talking to Melody Bostick I found that you must only use plastic or glass with this process because the sodium platinum solution will bound with any metal it touched an act as its plating.

9/14 research paper for coating.

9/15 Ordered Hahnemuhle Platnum Rag from B&H. Its an 100% cotton paper. In my research that seemed to be the best choice and the fact the Hahhnemuhle has a good reputation in the photo world. I will need to test it to make sure.

9/17. Talk to Professor Boddie today.

9/17 Ordered chemicals for printing from Bostick and Sullivan . I think this is enough for about 15 prints.

9/18 Need to storage and make sure you have 4x5 holders

9/20 Order chemicals from B&H. I will process my 4x5 negatives in HC110. I've always liked the tonal range more than D76 plus I feel it's easier to control the contrast by dilution.

9/20 Side note: I would like to see if my old 4x5 Graflex super D camera will work. I retrofitted the back with an old sonar 4x5 back. I will run a test to check light leaks. This camera will be more mobile than my 4x5 studio Sinar if it works.

10/12 Box is finally complete and all electrical working.

10/17 researching chemical in book Alternative Photographic Processes. After looking in several places for info on coating paper I decided to go with the three-part process.

10/21 Samples of paper arrived. I will choose Hahnemuhle Platinum Rag. It feels to have a whiter base and a smoother texture.

10/22 Start experimenting with coating paper.

Part A) Ferric oxalte-this will be the light-sensitive ingredient.

PartB) 20% platinum and palladium solution

PartC) 1% sodium platinum Na2

Addition) tween 20% solution I will use this to make the paper more sensitive to the chemicals as I apply the solution.

First paper coating test

6 platinum and palladium solution

6 drops of Ferric oxalte

3 frops of Na2 20%

1 drop tweem 20%
